New England, August 2018

Updated: Aug 27, 2019

Photographs I made on my 2018 trip to Massachusetts, Maine (love Maine!), Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

It was a late August trip, but too soon for the foliage beauty New England offers in late September and October. So, the focus was mainly on costal towns, villages, harbours, bays, mountains and parks (Acadia!).

Nearly all photographs taken on Nikon D750 mostly with the Nikkor 24-120 f4.

They are processed in Lightroom CC using my own preset I call "Kodak" which emulates a warm look with enhanced reds and blues, less contrast thus giving a film like look which, in my opinion, works fine with the pictures below.

Acadia Ntl Park

I really loved this part of the U.S., its incredible natural beauty, magnificent seashore, great little sea towns, seafood (yeah, lobster rolls!), and many small craft breweries.

Boston

Maine is clearly my favourite part of the trip - Acadia, Rockport, Portland, Camden, Bar Harbour...

Maine House in Camden, ME

Camden was a really nice little town on the shore with many nice small shops, excellent brewery (https://camden.seadogbrewing.com - try their blueberry beer :) and a nice little hotel (Cedar Crest Inn on Elm street) to stay in.

A must in Maine is the Lobster Roll. The most famous (so I heard) place is the Red's Eats in Wiscasset, ME. As you can see on the photograph, the queue is quite long, and goes on and on beyond the frame. I haven't tasted their rolls, got rather discouraged by the waiting time, so we went to the restaurant just across the street, and guess what, the lobster roll and clam chowder were delicious and no wait... Well, hard to judge if I haven't tried Red's, right?

Anyway, the Lobster roll isn't particularly photogenic (it tastes much better than it looks), so here is a shot of the whole lobster instead that you can get in Camden, right in the port in one of the restaurants.

We ended our trip in Boston, MA. It is an incredibly welcoming city with lots going on during the evenings, lots of great restaurants, bars and fun. We were there in August during Fisherman's Feast of the Madonna Del Soccorso di Sciacca in the Italian part of the city with lots of people, music, and Italian food tasting.
